All the trails were open and you could go at your own pace. The garden featured all sorts of cacti, Yucca and succulent galleries as well as grasses a butterfly pavillion and a desert wildflower trail. On 2-28-20 we drove to Tempe to visit the Desert Botanical Garden. I was staying for 8 days and he planned our day trips to maximize the most of what the area had to offer without overdoing it each day. I was visiting a freind in Mesa who winters here. We are sorry to hear you had a less-than 5-star experience at the Garden. If you like cactus and succulents you will love this place. They also have bathroom and a couple of shops. There are plenty of water stations throughout the park but bring your water containers. The calendar shows that they give 10 am Behind the Scene tours on weekends. ![]() Also they need to improve their on-line calendar of event. They admission is a bit expensive at around $30 for regular price but it goes to a good cause and you really get your moneys worth. I believe they try to keep each group to around 10-12. They have plenty of docents so if there are too many folks for one tour they will just break you up into smaller groups to ensure you have an excellent experience. The are between 40-50 minutes and high level but definitely worth the time. Jump on one of the docent lead general park tours (10, 11, and 1) that are complementary with your entrance fee. On our trip we toured a number or fabulous gardens and this one was the best cared for. Plus the gardens are extremely well cared for. The Garden has a incredibly wide variety of succulents and cactus. Also there are tons of docents around the park to answer your questions. ![]() Plus there is good signage throughout the park. The is a high level map that they give you when you enter (in the booklet) that will generally get you around. The Desert Botanical Gardens has a ton to over and is really a treat.
